The Vancouver Art Gallery opens Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change on May 14, 2026 — the first major exhibition in Canada to examine the intersection of the climate crisis and contemporary art on a global scale. Featuring 35+ works from the past 25 years across video, installation, and living sculpture, the exhibition travels to the Art Gallery of Ontario in early 2027. The gallery has partnered with Canada's National Observer and UBC's Climate Action Lab to extend the show online with original essays and artist videos.

Photography in a Changing Climate: Workshop at Penumbra Foundation, New York

Artist and educator Gesche Wuerfel is leading 'Photography in a Changing Climate,' a workshop at New York's Penumbra Foundation exploring how photographers can respond to the climate crisis through their practice. Wuerfel is also developing 'The Sinking City,' a NYSCA-supported project documenting climate-driven urban vulnerability. The initiative reflects growing momentum around photography as a core medium for environmental storytelling and climate communication.

Gallery Climate Coalition Launches CASI: New Climate Consultancy for the Art World

Launched on Earth Day 2026, CASI (Climate Action Services International) is a new hands-on consultancy spun out of the Gallery Climate Coalition to help visual arts organisations implement measurable environmental change. CASI offers carbon measurement, science-based decarbonisation strategies, and support across logistics, procurement, and governance. It has already worked with institutions including Hauser & Wirth, English Heritage, and Art Fund, and pledges to reinvest 51% of profits back into the GCC.
