1. About These Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Picturing Climate Network website and community platform ("PCN", "we", "us", "our") at picturingclimate.org, operated by Dr. Mark Kasumovic.

By creating an account or using the PCN, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Who Can Join

The PCN is an open network for artists, researchers, scientists, creative practitioners, and advocates working at the intersection of climate science and creative practice. Membership is open to anyone who genuinely works in or engages with these fields.

By joining, you confirm that:

You are at least 18 years old
You are a legitimate artist, researcher, curator, scientist, or creative practitioner
The information you provide about yourself and your projects is truthful and accurate
You are not using the PCN for commercial promotion or advertising purposes
You are not submitting AI-generated fake projects, profiles, or content

We reserve the right to decline or remove membership at our discretion where we have reason to believe these conditions are not met.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for:

Keeping your account credentials secure
All activity that takes place under your account
Ensuring your profile and project information remains accurate and up to date

Please notify us immediately via our Contact Us form if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

4. Community Standards

The PCN is built on a foundation of genuine collaboration, mutual respect, and shared commitment to climate research and creative practice. By participating in the network, you agree to:

Engage honestly and in good faith with other members
Respect the diversity of disciplines, backgrounds, and perspectives within the network
Only submit projects, profiles, and resources that genuinely represent your work
Not use the platform for commercial solicitation, spam, or self-promotion unrelated to your research or practice

We will remove members who:

Demonstrate dishonest or misleading activity (e.g. fake projects, impersonation)
Behave in a manner that is mean-spirited, harassing, or contrary to the ethos of the network
Use the platform for purposes inconsistent with these Terms
Show no genuine engagement with the network over a sustained period

We aim to handle all such decisions fairly. Where possible, we will contact you before taking action.

5. Your Content

Ownership

You retain full ownership of all content you submit to the PCN, including project descriptions, images, research details, and resource submissions ("Your Content").

Licence to PCN

By submitting content to the PCN, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, reproduce, and share Your Content on the PCN website and in PCN communications (such as newsletters or social media) for the purpose of operating and promoting the network.

This licence continues for as long as your content remains on the platform, and ends when you remove the content or delete your account (subject to the retention periods set out in our Privacy Policy).

Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for ensuring that:

You have the right to share any content you submit
Your content does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party
Your content does not contain anything unlawful, defamatory, or harmful

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or is otherwise inappropriate, without notice.

6. Resource Submissions

Members may submit external resources (publications, tools, datasets, funding opportunities, etc.) for inclusion in the PCN Resources Library. All submissions are reviewed by PCN before publication.

By submitting a resource, you confirm that:

You believe the resource to be accurate, legitimate, and relevant to the network's focus
You are not submitting resources for commercial gain or to direct traffic to your own commercial services

Disclaimer: While we review all resource submissions before approval, the PCN is not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or content of third-party resources linked from the site. Links to external websites do not constitute endorsement. If you find a resource that is inaccurate, broken, or inappropriate, please contact us.

7. Intellectual Property

All original content created by the PCN — including the site design, logos, written copy, and code — is the intellectual property of Dr. Mark Kasumovic and may not be reproduced without permission.

Member content remains the intellectual property of the respective member, subject to the licence granted in Section 5.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

The PCN is provided on an "as is" basis. We make no guarantees about the availability, accuracy, or reliability of the platform
We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, reliance on content posted by other members, or access to third-party resources linked from the site
We are not responsible for the conduct of other members

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.

9. Changes to the Platform and Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered members of significant changes by email. Continued use of the PCN after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

We also reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the PCN at any time, with reasonable notice where possible.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the PCN shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
