Our Research and Initiatives

At the Picturing Climate Network, we are fundamentally redefining how environmental research connects with society. Our research initiatives share a singular, radical vision: moving art from a tool for science communication to a functional mechanism that operationalises science for societal change and economic competitiveness.

Instead of treating public engagement as an afterthought, our projects embed artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs together at the very genesis of environmental discovery. By translating complex climate data into emotionally engaging, memorable experiences, we create new pathways for public engagement, behaviour change, and policy relevance.

Our Core Engine: The CAM Framework

All of our initiatives are powered by the Climactic Assemblages Methodology (CAM), developed through EASE — a £1.2 million UKRI-funded research project (2026–2028) in which PCN's network lead serves as Principal Investigator. CAM is a structured interdisciplinary framework for embedding artists within live scientific research to co-produce climate communication tools that are emotionally resonant, scientifically rigorous, and economically sustainable.

  • CAM is a robust interdisciplinary framework blending sustainable artistic co-creation, rigorous scientific investigation, and structured business innovation.

  • It systematically integrates entrepreneurial principles and iterative market testing into the art/science interface.

  • This methodology ensures that outputs are not only scientifically accurate and creatively compelling, but also economically sustainable and locally attuned.
