Entanglements

The first lab takes the Psiloritis massif as a single living system. Climate, water, stone, myth and livelihood are inseparable here. The Ideon Cave, one of the mythic birthplaces of Zeus, sits above upland settlements such as Zominthos and shepherding landscapes that have adapted to seasonal extremes for millennia. Underground, stalagmites quietly record the same climatic shifts these communities lived through. Participants follow the threads that bind a pothole's calcite to a village spring, a museum vitrine at Heraklion or Knossos to a herder's route, and a scientific dataset to a story told in the valley below. As the opening lab, Entanglements also sets out EASE's shared working tools, including assemblage mapping and co-authoring protocols. Its aim is to ask how artists, scientists and communities might map relationships, not just objects.
