Temporal Mapping
At Phalasarna, the ancient harbour now sits stranded above the sea, lifted out of the water by the great earthquake of AD 365. This lab works across colliding timescales:
the slow deep time of Quaternary fossils near Balos
the instantaneous rupture of a single seismic event
the layered human time of Venetian Chania
the contested memory held in Melidoni Cave
Scientists bring tools for dating and sequencing the past, and artists bring ways of compressing, stretching and narrating it. Together, participants ask how to visualise change that is both catastrophic and imperceptibly slow, and how mapping the past might change how communities picture their climate futures.

Lab Journal and Updates
Throughout the lab, researchers, artists and partners reflect on their involvement in the project. View and follow lab updates here in the form of our shared lab journal.
