The fourth SCI_ART symposium, 'After the Data / Cultural Climate Futures', brought artists and researchers from Canada and the European Union together in Vancouver (2–5 October) and at UBC Okanagan (7–8 October). Hosted by UBC Okanagan's Critical Future Studio/Lab with support from several EU embassies, the programme combined artist residencies, performances, public presentations and collaborative research. Organisers describe art not just as a way to communicate science but as 'a collaborative means of creating knowledge, informing policy and imagining more resilient futures'.

At InLiquid Gallery in Philadelphia, 'No Other Place to Go' brings together Anita Allyn, Richard Boutwell, Laura Krasnow, Kaitlin Pomerantz and Emma Ressel, whose work draws on scientific data, historical records and changing landscapes to explore environmental change and how it shapes memory and perception. Richard Boutwell's 'Reclamation: Deadpool', for example, uses the white mineral 'bathtub ring' left on Lake Mead's shores as evidence of a water system under pressure. Curated by Katie Tackman as part of Philadelphia's 20/20 Photo Festival, the exhibition closes on 17 October.

Scientists from the Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center have teamed up with art students from Belmont University to turn climate adaptation research into visual artworks. 'Framing Resilience: Adaptation Science Meets Art' shows the results at the UMass Amherst Science and Engineering Library on 22 October, exploring stories of community resilience and conservation.
